SAT scores pretty stagnant

August 30, 2006

Albany -- Dougherty County's SAT scores show no improvement over last year.  Last year's average Math Score in Dougherty county was 451.  It fell this year to 448.

The critical reading score stayed the same from 2005 to 2006.

School system workers say students can better prepare for the exam if they take higher level thinking courses in school. "I would like to encourage students who want to take the SAT who are going to college and need to take the SAT that they really need to take rigorous course work," said Testing Coordinator Renee Bridges. "They need to look at take the honors classes and AP classes to prepare for the SAT."

Each high school in Dougherty County offers a class before school focused on preparing for the Scholastic Assessment Test.
