Valdosta - Wild Adventures opened its gates for the 9th annual Day of Caring.

The event, hosted by the United Way, pairs area kids with volunteer mentors from the community.  They hope to show these kids of low-income families they have mentors in the community who care.

This year, over 400 kids were in attendance.  "The kids come from all walks of life. Some of them come from broken homes, some come from abusive homes, some come from loving homes that just have not come from the best economic circumstances," said Wild Adventures owner Kent Buescher.

The Day of Caring was the first of many events the United Way will hold for their 2006 "Walk a Mile in their shoes" fundraising campaign.
