Chicago, Il.- Former Valdosta High baseball standout Buck Coats has completed his rise in the minor league system of the Chicago Cubs.
The Cubs purchased Coats' contract from their AAA farm team in Iowa on Tuesday afternoon according to a team press release.
Coats gets the call to the big leagues because the Cubs had to place infielder Cesar Izturis on the 15-day disabled list with a strained hamstring.
A 18th round draft pick in 2000, Buck Coats was an all-star in the Southern League last season.
This year he was batting .277 with 20 doubles and six homeruns with the Iowa Cubs in the Pacific Coast League.
