New baseball team wants community input

 Albany - The owners of the new minor league baseball team that will begin play in Albany say they want to be part of the community.

And they want the community to be part of the soon to be named team.  

In fact, the South Coast League wants fans to pick the name for the new team.

The South Coast League has a name the team contest on the internet.

The website address is

South Coast chief executive officer Jamie Toole says the contest is just one of many ways that the league wants fans to be involved.

 Another is a 5-10 person advisory board to offer their input on things like promotions and ticket prices.

Jamie Toole sauid"Certainly we will have capable people in place but we don't think a cookie cutter type of program can work in every market. You need to adapt and be able tocome here and get this community excited about this team."

Toole says the name of Albany's new baseball team will be announced in about six weeks.

The contest winner will receive season tickets which will go on sale for the general public in about month and a half.

The South Coast League will field six teams beginning in May of next year.
