Lowndes County - Lowndes County commissioners vote tonight on a referendum to allow Sunday alcohol sales.

If approved, the referendum would allow liquor sales on Sunday at restaurants.  The referendum would exclude sales of alcoholic beverages at grocery stores, convenience stores, and other retail locations.

Many residents encouraged commissioners to take this to a vote.  "Collectively our citizens start to express their wishes to all of their local government.  Of course if you live in the city, you talk to your city council and the commissioners are hear to listen to all the residents of the county," said Paige Dukes, the Public Information Officer at the Board of Commissioners.

Earlier this month, the Valdosta City Council approved putting a similar referendum on the ballot.
