Smithville receives damage from bad weather

August 21, 2006

Smithville--The city of Smithville is recovering tonight after heavy rain and strong winds ripped through this evening.

Georgia Power crews were busy restoring power and repairing downed power lines a few hours ago.

The storm knocked over several trees, broke off limbs, and damaged some property in the process.

A shed that belonged to Smithville City Councilman, Vincent Cutt, was lifted into the air by heavy winds and tossed about sixty feet from its original location, demolishing it.

Lighting also struck the city government's flagpole and snapped it in two.
