Moultrie -- The Social Security Administration continues to upgrade their facilities, Monday opening their new District Office in Moultrie.
Senator Saxby Chambliss of Moultrie cut the ribbon to open the new six thousand square foot headquarters building.
The Moultrie District Office serves more than 17,000 Social Security beneficiaries in Colquitt, Cook, and Berrien Counties, making sure they receive more than 12 million dollars in payments.
With many American "baby boomers" reaching retirement age, Social Security is making sure they are ready to service the increased number of people. Social Security Assistant Regional Commissioner Leon Rhodes said "It's just a part of our overall improvement process. And it's not just with buildings, but we are improving how we do business. In fact most of the business we do right now is electronic. "
Rhodes said that the Social Security field office in Tifton will be moving into a new location soon, and the office in Columbus will get an updated home before the end of the year.
