Albany - - Children in need of some extra tutoring can get it for free, thanks to a new community outreach center.

The House of Mercy located on South Jackson Street celebrated its open house this weekend. Over the summer, it began offering tutoring services to children.

Now that school is in, it will also offer drug awareness discussions - in addition to tutoring in math, science, english and social studies.

"The reason we want to do the tutorial thing is to make sure our students get extra help in our areas since those are the types of things the state of Georgia is really expecting them to perform on," says Assistant Director Dr. Robert Graper.

The House of Mercy also offers quilting sessions and arts and crafts for senior citizens. It also plans to train people on the dangers of substance abuse.
