Man dies in car fire

August 17, 2006

Tift County-- Authorities in Tift County continue to investigate the death of an Air Force Reservist from Delaware.  26-year-old Airman First Class Sarvante Bentley was found dead in a burning car along Interstate-75 north of Tifton Monday night. It is not clear how the fire started, but officials say no foul play is suspected.

"The investigation is still ongoing Captain Mike Walker the head of our criminal investigations division was quoted as saying he did not believe any foul play was suspected in the death. The body has been sent to the G.B.I crime lab for an autopsy, but it is an ongoing investigation, but no foul play is expected right now"said David Haire with the Tift County Sheriff's office.

Bentley was reported missing when he did not report for duty last week at Dover Air Force Base. His 1995 Nissan Maxima is still impounded pending the results of the investigation.
