Investigators search for Terrell County woman

August 16, 2006

Albany -- Investigators and search and rescue teams from South Georgia are in Terrell County today looking for a missing woman.

The Terrell County Sheriff's Office has been searching for 35-year-old Sandra Monds since a little after 7 this morning. Monds' mother says she's been missing from her New Hope Road home in Terrell County since at least 6:30.

The mother says Monds was recently released from Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital from a psychiatric evaluation.

Sheriff John Bowens says he found her pills strewn on the floor of her home, but didn't say she was a threat to the community. The sheriff's office has gotten a lot of help from several other law enforcement agencies and local citizens as they continue the search."We've gone to cover the pond, we're hoping she's not in there from the signs of it she's not, but she could be somewhere in these thick woods. We found her shoes and her clothes this morning, but we haven't found her," said Terrell County Sheriff John Bowens.

Sandra Monds is about 5 foot 5 inches and weighs about 240 pounds. She's also deaf in her right ear.

Anyone who's seen this woman or has information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Terrell County Sheriff's Office at 995-4488.
