FSU's Posey ends summer with a title

August 14, 2006

South Yarmouth, Ma. - When Buster Posey was a senior at Lee County High School, he chose college baseball at Florida State over a chance to play pro baseball.

Buster is learning there is no such thing as an offseason in college baseball.

The Florida State shortstop spent this summer playing in the prestigious Cape Cod League where his Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox won the league championship Sunday.

Yarmouth-Dennis beat Wareham 5-1 in game three of a best two out of three series.

In that final game, Posey scored the game's first run and made a spectactular diving catch at shortstop.

Buster Posey was also selected to play in the Cape Cod League All-Star game and his regular season .289 batting average was the ninth best in a league that attracts the top college players in the nation.
