Bicycle sales up in Albany

August 5, 2006

Albany - - With gas prices pushing $3.00 a gallon across the country, people in Southwest Georgia are looking for alternative means to getting around.

Managers at Cycle World bicycle shop in Albany say more people are showing an interest in bicycles due to the high cost of gas.

The owner says not only are people looking at bikes, they're buying.

"Customers coming in looking for alternate transportation that's ususally close to work within a couple of miles they can jump on the bike, and be there in 10 minutes, they're not hot and sweaty," says Owner Jim Laue.

He says sales are up 20 % from this time last year.

One of the most popular bikes selling are hybrid bicycles....those are a cross between mountain bikes and road bikes, which are lighter in weight.
