Valdosta - The Valdosta State football team will celebrate a big milestone this year. The 2006 season is the 25th anniversary for the Blazer football program.
To honor the occasion, the Valdosta State football team will have a new look this year.
The Blazer home jerseys will continue to be black but their helmets will be silver along with their pants.
The jerseys will also have a patch that will signify this is the silver anniversary for the VSU football team.
The new uniforms look alot like those of the NFL's Oakland Raiders and the early reviews on them from Blazer fans has been very good.
And while the uniforms will only be worn this season, head coach Chris Hatcher says that might change if the Blazers win another national championship this season.
Hatcher said "We have had alot of people back us on it and heck who knows as superstitious as I am we maybe silver and black from here on out if we have a great season."
VSU will wear those uniforms for the first time on September 2nd when they play at Albany State.
The Blazers home opener is September 9 against Fort Valley State.
