Back to school for Lee County

August 4, 2006

Leesburg-- Students in Lee County wrapped up their summer and returned to the classroom today.

At the ever-growing Lee County High School, 200 new students boosted the student population to 1800.

Teachers and administrators spent the summer preparing for the increase and feel they're prepared to handle the challenges of a new school year.

"It's been great so far. We've had a wonderful start. We have a lot of new faces this year but everyone seems happy to be here and on time," says Beth Lobdell, the school's Teacher of the Year.

To deal with all of the extra students in Lee county, school system workers will begin construction to expand some of its schools in the next few weeks.

They also have plans to build a larger elementary school next month.
