Valdosta - Valdosta fire officials named James Williams their new fire Marshal.  Williams' promotion comes a month and a half after former Fire Marshal John Baty died.

Williams worked closely with Baty to implement new programs, including the Junior Fire Marshal program which is now being recognized by the state.
"The Insurance Commissioner has looked at the programs and believes they're good enough to put throughout the state and that happening to. I want to carry on the legacy of John Baty who he and I started these programs and I want to see them go all the way through," said Fire Marshal James Williams.

Williams has worked with the Valdosta Fire Department for 30 years.
