Deerfield Football Begins

July 31, 2006

Albany -- The Deerfield football team is back on the field.

DWS holding its first practice of the season today at the school, and the Knights say they're glad to be back in action.

Deerfield Windsor head coach Alan Lowe says he's happy to be back on the field.

"Everything is right with the world when you get back on the football field," says Lowe. "We're excited to be out here. It's just a great journey every year, and this one is hopefully going to be a good one for us."

Senior Paul Reese says, "We're just excited to be back. All the guys are excited to starting practicing."

It's the first practice of the season for the Knights, and they're making sure they take the proper steps.

Lowe says, "Right now we're just going in shorts, trying to get used to the heat before we go in pads. You just don't want to step out there in full pads and add about ten degrees of temperature when you're not quite ready. This week is just to get acclimated and work them a little bit."

Reese adds, "We've been working real hard in the offseason in the weight room and conditioning, so it really helps us when we get out on the practice field."

Quarterback Paul Reese is Deerfield only returning all-state selection, as says a tough first practice isn't slowing his team down.

"We're glad to be working hard," says Reese.

Lowe adds, "They love it. They can say all they want to, but they'd rather be here than anywhere else."

The Knights are putting in the work to meet their high expectations.

Reese says, "We always expect to get to the state championship, but we're just excited to get back on the practice field and start practicing."

"We just want to get back to the big game," says Lowe. "We haven't been there in a couple of years, and we want to get back to it, cause it sure is fun. This group has worked real hard, and hopefully we can find a way to get there."

The 2005 Region Champion Knights advanced to the second round of the playoffs.
