Albany --  You can get rid of those old cell phones, and help a victim of family violence in Southwest Georgia.

The March of Dimes and the Dougherty County Police are collecting cell phones to help victims of domestic or family violence. The cell phones will be distributed to South Georgia shelters, and given to victims who might need to make an emergency call.

"The need is really great. There are a lot of incidents that go unreported. And a large part of that is because women don't have any access to a telephone to report the incidents," said Lt. J.C. Phillips of the Dougherty Co. Police Department.

The March of Dimes will activate the cell phones, and distribute them to the violence shelters.

If you want to donate your old cell phone or charger, there are drop off boxes at the Dougherty County Police Headquarters, the Chik-Fil-A in the Albany Mall, and the March of Dimes in the Lafayette Plaza.
