July 26, 2006

Valdosta - The odds of a Divsion II basketball player making an NBA roster are slim and none.

But Valdosta State's Jon Rogers is hoping to beat those odds.

Rogers was preparing to head to Europe to start his pro career when his agent called and said the Washington Wizards wanted to give him a tryout.

Rogers made their summer league squad.

After seeing alot of bench time in their first four games in Las Vegas,

Rogers saw plenty of action inthe final two in Long Beach, California where he scored five points against Memphis two weeks ago.

Rogers says he has to get better to make play in the NBA but believes if he works hard enough he will get there on day.

His next goal is to get invitation to the Wizards training camp in October.

Jon Rogers said "Of course I would like to go training camp with them but if not I will play overseas for a little bit. How ever long it takes to get to the next level, to the NBA."

Jon Rogers was a two time first team all Gulf South Conference player and led the league in rebounding and blocked shots his senior season.
