APD officer shoots woman

July 26, 2006

Albany --  An APD officer shot a woman inside an abandoned South Albany house this morning.

The woman has, so far, survived the gunshot wound to her chest.   Just before 11:00 AM, Corporal Vy Chu responded to a call at 1303-B South Davis Street. Neighbors called police because they believed someone was inside the abandoned house.

The officer encountered a woman, and shot her in the chest. The victim, Alice Warren, said to be in her 30's is hospitalized.

"One of our officers responded to the call and was in the process of searching the house when a female lunged at him and he fired one round disabling the female who was in the house."

Police won't tell us whether the woman had a weapon. Corporal Chu, who's been with APD a little over three years, is on administrative leave. The GBI is investigating.
