Albany -- An Albany police officer shot and wounded a woman at an abandoned South Albany house this morning. The shooting happened in the 1300 block of South Davis Street around 10:45.
The police chief says the officer was responding to a call at an abandoned house when the shooting happened.
"One of our officers responded to the call," said APD Chief James Younger. "He was in the process of searching the house when a female lunged at him, and he fired one round, disabling the female who was in the house."
The woman is at the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. No word on her condition.
The officer who shot her is being interviewed by police.
