Police want shooting robber

July 24, 2006

Albany --- An Albany security guard was shot last night as he tried to stop a truck stop robbery.

Moments after the shooting, store video shows the robber rifling through a safe and taking money from the register of Jack Rabbit Foods at the corner of Clark Avenue and Cordele Road.

He got into the store after he shot Joe Parker in the leg. The 50-year-old Vinson Security Guard is recovering. Monday, the door shattered by a bullet was boarded up.

"They have a security guard there on duty," said  Albany Police Lt. James Williams. "The security guard tried to prevent the incident from happening, but the robber fired one shot, striking the security guard in the left leg."

The robber is a black man,  5-foot-8 to 5-foot-10 inches tall. Police want you to take a look at this surveillance video. If you recognize the man, call Albany Police.
