Thomasville-  An innocent mistake caused the Thomasville Police and GBI bomb squad to evacuate several blocks in Thomasville Tuesday night.  New information Wednesday morning reveals, several suspicious packages abandoned in front of the Federal Courthouse in Thomasville turn out to be nothing more than garbage.

Electrical contractors working on the roof of the Federal Building Tuesday packaged up their remaining wire and garbage in several cardboard boxes and tossed it off the side of the roof planning to pick them up later.  They forgot.   The Post Master found the suspicious packages Tuesday night and called police just before seven.

Police called the Thomasville GBI who were returning from Atlanta. They arrived around 9:30 p.m. with their remote controlled bomb robot and detonated one box with wires shortly after 11:00 p.m. Captain Troy Rich called it an innocent accident and says charges won't be filed. Broad Street was reopened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday.
