Saunders win AF2 Ironman Award

July 11, 2006

Albany - Not many people would believe that South Georgia Wildcats receiver Blake Saunders is an ironman at five foot nine inches in height.

But Saunders is this week's Arena 2 Football League Ironman of the Week after his performance in Saturday's win over Bossier-Shreveport.

On offense, Saunders caught a 35 yard touchdown pass, made four tackles and intercepted a pass on defense and on special teams he blocked a field goal and recovered in the endzone for a safety.

A great honor for a young man who has worked hard to get back into the Wildcats starting lineup.

Blake Saunders said "Definitely feels great. Feels like it's a big accomplishment. Not just for me, but for the team. People go on the internet and they see "Ironman of the Week" is from South Georgia. So I kind of represent the team, all the coaches, and the whole city."

Former Valdosta State receiver Dennis Fryzel wins the AF2 Cutter Catch of the Week Award.

Fryzel, who plays for the Louisville Fire, won the award for an 18 yard touchdown catch Saturday against Memphis.
