South Georgia teacher before Professional Standards Commission

July 11, 2006

Atlanta-  A Cairo teacher who resigned after a school trip went bad has her case heard by the Professional Standards Commission.  Cairo High School Beta Club sponsor Meg Whigham is charged with violating the Professional Standards Commissions Code of Ethics.

Her case was heard Tuesday before the P.S.C. Whigham and three other chaperones took 17 BETA Club students to Atlanta in February 2005. One student was caught by police trying to balcony hop at the Hyatt Hotel.

When police investigated, they found alcohol in several students' rooms. Nobody was arrested. Three other chaperones already accepted recommendations made by the P.S.C. which included suspensions and a letter of reprimand.
