The unemployment rate in the Southwest Georgia region declined to 8.2 percent in April, down two-tenths of a percentage point from 8.4 percent in March. The rate was 8.8 percent in April a year ago.More >>

Albany -- A Democratic Candidate for Secretary of State said paper receipts are needed to assure Georgians their electronic voting system is fair.
Scott Holcomb flew to Albany Monday afternoon during a six city tour around Georgia. The security's attorney from Atlanta says voter verified paper receipts from the ballot box is needed to prevent errors or tampering during elections.
Holcomb said "So every voter gets to see a paper record of their votes, and if there is a need for a recount or the need for an audit we'll actually have the paper record to verify the electronic votes that are cast. "
Holcomb made rally stops today in Albany, Valdosta, Macon, Savannah, Augusta, and Atlanta.
He is one of six candidates for the Democratic Nomination for Secretary of State.
