Phinazee wants to continue helping children

July 7, 2006

Albany-- A retired school teacher hopes to take over the District 6 seat on the Dougherty County School board.

Dean Phinazee greeted family, friends and supporters during a fish fry Friday night. Phinazee says his 35 years of teaching Dougherty County children motivated him to run in the upcoming election. He hopes to bring a stronger voice and more empowerment to teachers by getting them more involved with curriculum.

"The curriculum sometimes is very strict and dictates where you should be and what you should do and I'm saying allow the teachers to help make decisions about what they would like to teach in their classroom," says Phinazee.

Phinazee will face incumbent Mike Windom on July 18th.
