Albany -- The public is invited to see the progress made on the renovation of the old Albany Theater.
Every first Friday of the month, the theater is open to the public for tours. The facility is in Stage One of a $5.5 million renovation.
Planners say the tours give people a chance to see part of Albany's history being rebuilt.
"This particular building would be the icon for downtown Albany and for tourists if they knew there was going to be a broadway play here that would just be the icing on the cake," said Terese Cohen.
"This is a historic place that has extensive history in Albany and it's really being restored in a historic preservation," said Mike Windom, who toured the theater.
The lower floor of the theater is expected to be complete within six months. Oglethorpe Development Group is heading up the project, which is funded by private donations and federal grants.
