Albany -- The fourth of July is still several days away, but some folks are starting the celebration early.   The Marine Base in  kicked off its 12th annual Independence Day celebration this evening about 4:00.

Hundreds of people are already here to take part in the event.  There's certainly plenty to do. As well as plenty of food to chow down on, the celebration will feature a variety of food from food and drink vendors.

There's also plenty of fun activities to enjoy, like a climbing rock wall for the kids and other inflatable attractions. Of course, there will be plenty of good music to listen to from various military bands.

Organizers hopes the event just brings the entire Albany community together. This event is open to everyone, not just to members belonging to the base.

And best of all it is free of charge, and the celebration will last until 10 tonight.  The fireworks show will begin a little after nine o'clock.
