It's movie time again in Cordele

June 27, 2006

Cordele-- After two years of waiting, people in Cordele can finally sit down and enjoy popcorn and a good flick.

The Spotlight Cordele Stadium Five theater officially opens Wednesday but Tuesday night, some lucky radio winners got an early glimpse of the new theater.

It has 5 screens, stadium seating and digital sound. Many people in Cordele were upset when Carmike Theaters closed down two years ago. Spotlight Theaters got a lot of inquiries about bringing a movie house to Crisp County and responded to the strong demand.

"We worked closely with the city and the chamber and the response has just been overwhelming. So, it was so positive that this is just a win, win for everybody," says Owner Joe Paletta.

About 300 radio winners got free popcorn, drinks and a movie Tuesday night. It took about 8 months to get the theater up and running.
