Albany -- Nearly 82 percent of the sixth graders at Radium Springs Middle school failed the science portion of the Criterion Referenced Competency Test. 71 percent of the 6th graders at Albany Middle School failed.

Those failure rates are a stark contrast to some of the scores achieved by students at Robert Cross Middle Magnet school. Only 19 percent of sixth graders at Robert Cross failed the science portion of the test.

All seventh graders from that school passed Language Arts, reading, and social studies, and very low failure rates overall.

Some of the tests subjects are based on the new Georgia Performance Standards curriculum, rather than the previously used Quality Core Curriculum standards.
