Domestic violence related to two Albany murders

June 17, 2006

Albany -- Two homicides in the city of Albany within 24 hours, both appear to be domestic related. Forty-year-old Lawanda Dawson of Albany was taken to police headquarters following the death of 51-year-old Alfred Sutton.

Law enforcement was investigating the crime scene today in the 22-hundred block of Clarke Avenue. Sutton lived in Lot C-29 with his brother. Coroner Emma Quimbly says the cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma to the head, but an atopsy to determine the exact cause will be performed Monday.

Family members are left wondering what happened."I thought maybe somebody would tell me something about what went on, and I don't know nothing right now. I'm just in the dark really," said cousin Calvin Hill.

Albany Police say Dawson and Sutton were in a relationship. Dawson is being held at the Dougherty County Jail.
