Valdosta - Valdosta leaders say their city has one of the lowest property tax rates in the state, and they want to keep it that way. The proposed budget adds three new firefighters, improves the retirement system for all city employees, and increases money set aside to keep gas in city vehicles.
The budget does not include an increase in the milage rate. "It's a balanced budget, always has been and we are responsible enough that we don't see another milage increase ant that will be the sixth year in a row with it remaining the same or going down," said Valdosta Mayor John Fretti.
City council members expect to approve the budget June 22nd.
