Albany --  After months of speculation, Chamber of Commerce President Tim Martin says Wal-Mart officially plans to build a new superstore in East Albany.

But Martin wouldn't say exactly where the new store will be located. The construction should begin in early 2007, later than first expected.

Martin says Hurricane Katrina likely slowed construction. "Eighty-nine Wal-Mart stores were damaged. The real estate department that is trying to get those back on line is the same real estate department that is looking for new sites. So, there may be some correlation between that effort and what they are able to do here," said Martin.

Martin doesn't know yet when the new Wal-Mart will open.
