Students get money for college

June 10, 2006

Dawson - - The Terrell County Chapter of the NAACP is giving students help going to college.

The group held a banquet tonight at Terrell County High School. The event was packed with community leaders and supporters.

Seven students received scholarships for $1000 each. Group leaders say it's assistance that can go a long way for students with big aspirations.

"This is a low economic area, farming area and were trying to encourage and mentor children to excel and doing everything we can to help them excel," says Rev. Ezekiel Holley, the President of the chapter.

Holley says the group keeps in touch with its scholarship recipients. In fact, several of them graduated from college this year.

The NAACP also honored its oldest member today, Syree King. King turns 100 years old next month.
