Lee County makes property sale changes

June 6, 2006

Lee County-- A new ordinance will ensure Lee County employees follow the rules when it comes to old county property.

In April, several county employees bid on vehicles and property no longer needed by the county but they didn't follow proper procedure. The property wasn't approved and declared surplus by commissioners and it wasn't advertised for the community.

Employees who bought vehicles for as low as 30 dollars were forced to return them. Tuesday night, county commissioners approved a new ordinance.

The biggest change will prevent county employees or their immediate families from bidding in any future surplus auctions.
