Albany - An Albany man wanted for murder is tracked down and caught in Detroit, more than a year after the crime. 58-year old Maurice Smith was arrested with the help of Detroit Police after Albany investigators followed a lead all the way to Michigan.
Smith is accused of gunning down 50-year old Raymond Hawkins outside a West Whitney home February 4, 2005.
"They were able to make contact with the Detroit Police Department, locate the suspect and interview that suspect. As a result of that interview and some other information, they were able to initiate an arrest for that suspect," said Police Chief James Younger.
Smith was always a prime suspect. Smith is awaiting extradition to Albany.
