Seniors win art awards

June 1, 2006

Albany - - Some Southwest Georgia senior citizens showed off their finest art work and won awards for it today.

The Southwest Georgia Council on Aging held its annual Shades of Gold Art Show and Sale in Downtown Albany.

Each week, the council holds art classes for seniors who want to keep busy. Today, the council awarded prizes including Best of Show.

"Most of these people are retired and this gives them an outlet. Some of them have never painted before, some of them had painted a little bit but we all like to be recognized," says Kay Hind with the Council.

Visitors had a chance to view the artwork before the awards were announced. Judges were also on hand to make the final decision.

Barbara Haupt won 1st place and Lillian Marcus went away with Best of Show.
