Tift County -- A Tift County fire hydrant needed to fight a devastating house fire didn't work-- because a valve was turned off.

When firefighters responded to the home on Edgewater drive Sunday and tried to use the hydrant directly across the street from the burning house,  it wouldn't work.

They had to refill the tankers from other hydrants located nearby.

Tifton-Tift County Utilities Director Damon Harper says all the hydrants in the Taylor Ridge subdivision have been checked and are now functioning properly.
