Senior citizens picnic the day away

May 26, 2006

Albany-- South Georgia senior citizens put on their spring best and headed out for a special picnic in their honor.

It was a square-dancing good time Friday at the Sowega Council on Aging's annual senior picnic. It's held this time each year in celebration of Older American's Month. Dozens of seniors filled a room at Chehaw Park for some good food, fun and music.

The Council has held the picnic for nearly 30 years and the weather always seems to cooperate.

"It has never rained on our picnic day which I think is just remarkable," says Sowega Executive Director Kay Hind.

Picnics were held all over Southwest Georgia today. The Sowega Council on Aging serves 14 counties.
