Thomasville -- Police charge a play school teacher with cruelty to children for spanking a girls's hand with a demonstration toothbrush.

Henrietta Jane Robinson, a teacher with 16 years at the Thomas County Head Start program, was arrested by Thomasville Police.  They say Robinson spanked William Newsome's 4-year old daughter May 9th on the hand with an over-sized toothbrush. The toothbrush is normally used to demonstrate the proper way to brush. They say the child had bruises on the back of her right hand.

"I look at her hand, the whole squared part of the back of her hand was red and blue, black and green. I ask her what happened, and she said the teacher did it, and I freaked out," said her father, William Newsome.

Thomas County Head Start policy prohibits corporal punishment. Robinson is free on an $1100  bond.
