Crisp county - - A well known lawyer and former district attorney has died.

Former Cordele District Attorney Gary Christy died at the age of 57 from heart complications.

Current D.A. Denise Fachini says Christy hired her as an Assistant D.A. right out of college. She says he was a mentor.

"He was a fantastic trial attorney, a true advocate, believed passionately for his client and when his client was the state of Georgia and the victims of crime, he fought tiressly for them."

Fachini says Christy worked with young attorneys and helped to coach Crip County's Mock Trial Team the year they won the state competition.

A memorial service is planned for Christy tomorrow in Atlanta.
