Leesburg -- Former Lee County sheriff's deputy Donnie Spillers reported for the first time to his probation officer this morning.

Thursday, a jury convicted Spillers of violating his oath of office and giving false statements to Investigators, both felonies. He was sentenced to five years probation and 400 hours community service.

Probation Supervisor Loren Strickland said Spillers reporting and community service schedule will be set up at a later date.

Spillers community service will be different from most to ensure Lee County Sheriff's Office employees do not supervise him.

Spillers was acquitted of involuntary manslaughter and evidence tampering in the shooting death of 17-year old Wesley Beaver.
