Albany - People who live in unincorporated parts of Dougherty County could soon be forced to pay for trash service.
Some commissioners are criticizing a proposed solid waste management plan for the County and the city of Albany. It calls for people in the county to pay for waste management service, even if they currently take their own trash to the county landfill.
County Commissioner Jack Stone says he doesn't like the idea of making people pay for unnecessary services. He says, "To make it mandatory for them to have to pay a garbage collector to pick it up that's not what they want to do. I think it needs to be left alone."
The proposal is not final and does not have to be adopted until June 30th.
