Civitan club raises money for camp

May 21, 2006

Albany -- Albany's Civitan Club served up breakfast at one local restaurant today to raise money for its annual summer camp event.

The owner's of Quickie's Restaurant on Slappey Boulevard let the club take orders, cook food and serve it. All the proceeds from the event is given to the club for the summer camp program.

Each year the civitans provide physically and mentally challenged children with a weeklong summer camp at the Kolomoki Mounds in Blakely.

"It gives these kids an opportunity to be normal so to speak. They have counselors there, they do arts and crafts, fishing, swimming," said Grant Williams.

This is the 25th year the club has held summer camp for the special needs children.

Call Civitan Club president Grant Williams at (229) 436-7322 or Michael Woodward at (229) 344-4404 for information on the summer camp or if you'd like to help out.
