Albany Club honors outstanding students

May 16, 2006

Albany--A Southwest Georgia civic club honors three outstanding students and one of their members for their community service.

Dougherty High School senior Orson Burton, Junior was presented the Youth of the Year Award by the Southwest Georgia Exchange Club. Burton will attend Morehouse College next year where he will study political science and philosophy.

Burton said clubs that honor and sponsor students help South Georgia youth to succeed. Burton said "Southwest Georgia Exchange Club is a very positive role model that the youth can look at in the community. They are doing positive things. Anytime you give back to the youth, it's positive. "

The Exchange Club also honored Cornell Dixon of Robert Cross Middle School and Karlisha Loud of the South Georgia Regional Achievement Center with their Young Citizenship Awards.

Marvin Mixon was given the club's Book of Golden Deeds Award for his outstanding community service.
