Albany -- South Georgia runners better get in shape, they'll soon have the chance to run a marathon right here in Albany.
Tina Marbury is a long distance runner who plans to compete in the Snickers Marathon Energy Bar Marathon.
The Phoebe Cancer Center, Masterfoods USA, and community leaders teamed up to sponsor the run, and promote healthy and active lifestyles. The marathon will wind through the Marine Base and parts of east Albany.
"It's a huge opportunity for Albany to showcase what we have to offer here and to bring in atheletes from all over the nation," said Tina Marbury.
"We're looking for lots of volunteers and you can do anything from walking and sponsoring to actually working one of the water stations just a lot of opportunity for Albany," said Sarah Underdown.
The event is set for early March of 2007. Proceeds will go toward building an in-patient hospice in the area.
