Albany -- Southwest Georgia's child care referral service celebrated its new headquarters Friday morning.

Stepping Stones held a ribbon cutting and open house at their new home on Gillionville Road, just across the street from Darton College. The home is owned by the Darton College Foundation.

Stepping Stones helps train early care and child education professionals, and refers parents to quality child care providers in 14 counties.

State leaders say early learning centers for Georgia's kids makes for a bright economic future, but there is a shortage of trained child care educators. Karen Robinson of the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning say "It's a professional field. And it is something where we need individuals to work with children on a daily basis and do develop mentally appropriate activities. "

Stepping Stones receives federal and states funds. Their new home will offer library and computers to help child care centers receive national accreditation.
