Lee County loses Game One in State Playoffs

May 10, 2006

Leesburg --Wednesday night the Lee County Trojans lost a rain shortened game one of the Quad-A state baseball playoffs to the Evans High Knights 2-0.

Lee County swept Evans in the state playoffs last year. Now the Trojans find themselves down one game in the best of three series, facing a must win situation Thursday.

Lee County has trouble on defense in the second inning, Devontray Richardson on the mound for the Trojans, Evans second baseman Alex Sitton with a single to center, it gets by Lee County's Brian Heggle, who slips in the wet grass, and the runner moves to second on the error.

Sitton at third, Designated Hitter Jason Boyle grounds to short, but Jack Posey has it get by him, and Sitton scores to put Evans in the lead one to nothing in the second inning.

Evans had the bases loaded in the fourth, when a single to left field chases home one more run, 2-0 Knights.

Evans was leading 3-0 in the sixth, when those fierce storms hit the ballpark. Nine advertising signs on the outfield fence were ripped down, and the game was called.

Because Lee County had not finished their at-bat, the game was final after 5, and Evans final victory margin was 2-0 over the Trojans. Lee County held to just three hits.

Game Two will be played Thursday at 5 o-clock, with a game three if needed following. The Trojans have to win two, or their season is over.
