Park fountain to spring back to life soon

May 10, 2006

Albany - A popular summer spot for Dougherty County kids should open soon. The Riverfront Park fountain is expected to open within a few weeks. The County had to makes some changes to the fountain to comply with health regulations, including installing an emergency phone.

County Facilities Director Roy Downs said, "The issues would have been that we didn't not have a certified pool operator, which we do now. So Environmental Health will come down and test the system and sign off on it. Then we will put it into operation."

Health regulations call for a permanent restroom on-site, but health inspectors o-kayed the use of portable restroom until the County can build a permanent one. The county tried to do that over the winter, but the costs were higher than budgeted.
