Sumter County -- A Sumter County escapee remains at-large, while the search for him focuses on the Atlanta area. 31-year old Ronald smith swiped a truck while assigned to a work detail at Georgia Southwestern University in Americus just before noon Monday.

The vehicle was located in Atlanta later in the day. He was serving time at Sumter correctional institute for stealing a car in Carroll County.

Officers from several local, State, And federal agencies joined a search for smith in a wooded area near the Sumter/Lee County line Monday afternoon after a deputy thought he saw smith in the area.

The South Georgia search was called off when the truck was found in Metro Atlanta.
